The Instagram game is more intense today than ever before. With over 500 million active users each today (and growing), your feed has to be more curated, thought out, and aesthetically pleasing to gain any traction on the growing platform.
Here are a few of the tips that we live by when we are managing our client’s Instagram pages and could help you understand how to establish a more cohesive Instagram aesthetic.
Know your brand identity
What is your brand? What does your brand value? What kind of characteristics does your brand have? These are all questions that need to be answered before you truly know what your brand identity is. Whatever that image you create in your head of your brand is what should reflect on your Instagram page. For example, Michael Kors’ Instagram is “on brand.” Their Instagram reflects the classy, mature, and upper-middle-class lifestyle of customers they want to target.
Know your target audience
Michael Kors knows their brand, so they are effectively able to target their ideal customer while staying on brand. To do this, you must know who your ideal customer avatar is: what they like, what they dislike, what they like to do for fun, and so much more. Knowing exactly who you’re serving allows you to serve them in the best way possible.
Tell a story with each post
Within each photo and each caption, your post should be telling a story. Within each story, there should be a purpose. When you tell a purposeful, and value-filled story, you engage your audience and give them a reason to stay and continue to consume your content. This not only will allow you to gain more followers, but also create brand loyalty from your customers.
Choose a color palette and stick with it
Bringing out your brand’s colors, using one or two of the same filters, or even just using a similar accent color in each photo, can ensure your brand’s Instagram page has the same “feel” throughout. This “feel” that you create with colors and filters, allows your followers and customers to associate those colors and filters with your brand. The more your customers and potential customers recognize your brand, the more likely they are to buy from you.
At the end of the day, this all sounds like a lot for an Instagram page, right? The key to most influencers and business Instagram page’s success is to plan out content ahead of time. Planning your content allows you to set your Instagram grid up for success, and allows you to strategically post content for your business, rather than throwing something together last minute.
Whether you are an entrepreneur, a multimillion-dollar business owner, or a local influencer, an aesthetically pleasing Instagram page is something that you need to continue to grow your business. Instagram offers a plethora of growth opportunities, but without a solid grid aesthetic, you have no chance of competing.
